RESTORATIVE NURSING:  A QUALITY OF LIFE JOURNEY

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
4 Hours (applied for)

Embassy Suites Hotel
Columbia, SC

Registration Deadline:  November 12

About the Program:
For long-term care facilities that are looking to maintain or restore a resident's psychosocial health and quality of life, a restorative program may be just the ticket.  Additionally, restorative nursing provides capabilities to control long term care costs, improve staff moral, and comply with CMS standards. Restorative nursing programs represent quality geriatric nursing care practices. Facilities with restorative programs find that their residents are different. They are more alert and involved; behavioral problems are reduced.

This workshop focuses on MDS definitions of ADLs, self-performance and support provided levels, and the correct MDS coding for each. It also explains how to incorporate the rerouting care process into daily clinical operations. Finally, this session discusses restorative nursing programs that can help residents maintain or actually improve ADL self-performance.

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this session participants should be able to:

Explain levels of ADL self-performance in everyday terms.

Correctly code ADL self-performance and support provided on the MDS.

Describe the method to incorporate the rerouting care process into daily clinical operations.

Outline the integration of restorative nursing along the continuum of care.

Describe ways to improve residents’ ADL self-performance through the use of restorative nursing.

Recognize the positive impact of restorative nursing on a facility’s quality indicators and quality measures.
